All About WORKCAMP

Fill out the form COMPLETELY and turn it in to the Youth Ministry Office, along with your $50 deposit.

No Form will be processed without deposit payment.

 

PREPARATION MEETINGS:

All Workcampers are expected to attend Prep Meetings, unless Cassanndra is contacted otherwise.

 

  • Sunday, January 4(2-4 PM) - Meeting #1 (Called to Community)
  • Sunday, March 15 (2-4 PM) - Meeting #2 (Called to Serve)
  • Saturday, May 30 (10 AM- 12 PM) - Orientation for 1st-Time participants (required meeting WITH PARENT)
  • Saturday, June 6 (10 AM - 12 PM) - Review for returning participants (required meeting WITH PARENT)

 

FUNDRAISING:

Fundraiser opportunities will be planned throughout the year, beginning in October. Watch this website, the Church bulletin, and e-mails from Cassandra for updates and to sign up for fundraising events.

Group Workcamps Quick description:

 

* A 6-day home repair experience

* St. John's joins up to 400 campers from churches all over the country

* For any student entering 9th grade in Fall 2009, through high school graduates

 

You'll tackle projects like:

 

* Interior and exterior painting

* Building or repairing porches and wheelchair ramps

* Building or repairing steps

* Weatherizing and other home repairs

 

You can expect:

 

* To work in small teams of four or five teenagers with one or two adults, each person fulfilling an important role

* To enjoy high-impact devotions and daily interactive programs packed with music, Scripture, media, drama, and challenges—led by a trained youth ministry professional and a song leader. All designed by the experts at Group Magazine to help you shape your teenagers’ service experience into a spiritual growth experience.

* To be supported by a well-trained staff including a trip Director, Program Leader, Song Leader, and up to 14 additional staff dedicated to running the programs, office, materials room, and more.

* To provide one adult (21+ years) for every five youth you bring

 

Additional Information:

 

* We will arrive at Workcamp on Sunday afternoon and departing the following Saturday morning.

* Expect a big-event feel. Up to 75 homes will be repaired during the week.

* Project crews typically serve the same resident for the entire week, creating an environment where meaningful relationships develop. And, projects are designed to be completed during the week, allowing your teenagers to experience the satisfaction of a job well done.

* You'll lodge at a school, college, church or other similar facility. Be prepared to sleep on classrooms floors, eat, and shower at the facility. A limited number of locations offer semi-private housing with some amenities.

* Enjoy hot breakfasts, picnic lunches, and hot suppers.

* You'll be given a half day to explore the area, please be prepared to purchase your evening meal on that day.

* You will make new friends while serving on project teams with people from other churches.

* Safety is priority #1. A minimum of 1 adult is required for every 5 teenagers. Power saws are used by adults only. Plus, you’ll have comprehensive safety training. And, all adults (staff and participants) 21+ are required to be screened with formal background checks through a National Criminal Indicator Database.

* Adults serve on project teams with teenagers.

* Registration includes lodging, meals, construction materials and/or project supplies, a theme t-shirt, development of program and devotions, comprehensive project preparation and online leader manual, program supplies, Mission Handbook, project selection, project organization administration, staff, and unlimited customer support.

* Be prepared to bring supplies such as ladders, painting supplies, and construction tools including circular saws, electric drills, hammers, etc.
