GENERAL INFO

DROP IN SUNDAYS

NOW THAT I'VE REGISTERED, WHAT IS NEXT?

TYPICAL SESSION

Perhaps you’ve seen the signs leaving church and wondered, what is “Why Catholic?” and why should I try it?  “Why Catholic?” is an uplifting adult faith formation process  being offered at St. John's this fall.  Designed around a small group model of faith sharing, Why Catholic? offers a concrete and systematic approach to help adult Catholics deepen or discover anew their Catholic faith and connecting it to everyday life.

Q.    How does it work?

A.     Small groups of 10 to 12 people are formed that meet for 90 minutes each week for six weeks, beginning October 8th, 2007In these gatherings, participants read and reflect on the way we celebrate our faith through the Sacraments.

Q.    When will these groups meet?

A.    The tenative groups for the fall include:

  • Sunday 9-10:15 AM (during RE)*
  • Sunday 10:30-11:45 AM (during RE)*
  • Tuesday Morning (Seniors)*
  • Wednesday Morning (Women)
  • Wed 4:15-5:30 PM (During RE)*
  • Wednesday Evening
  • Thursday Evening
  • Friday Morning (Moms, Kids invited)*
  • Friday Evening

* - Groups marked with asterisk meet at St. Johns

Q.     What topics will be covered?

A.  The overall theme this year is Sacraments.  Specific topics for the fall include:  the Liturgy, an overall understanding of the Sacraments, the specific Sacrament of Baptism, and the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA).

Q.    Six weeks doesn’t seem long enough to cover all seven Sacraments.

A.     "Why Catholic?"  is made up of several six-week modules. As described above, the fall module covers liturgy, an overview of Sacraments, and the Sacrament of Baptism.  The spring module, which will be offered in Lent will cover the other six Sacraments.  At this point, we are asking people to consider joining for the first six-week session.

Q.    What are the benefits of participating?

A.     “Why Catholic?” is an opportunity to learn more about our faith, deepen understanding of what we believe, explore how we can connect what we believe with everyday life, eat snacks, and meet new people.

Q.    Does this program have church backing?

A.     Yes.  Both Cardinal Keeler and our Pastor, Msgr. Woy, have embraced this program.  "Why Catholic?" also will be used at 50 other parishes in the Archdiocese of Baltimore.

Q.    How do I sign up?

A.  You will be able to sign up at all masses on the weekend of September 22nd/23rd.   If you miss Sign up weekend, call the religious education office at 410-647-4892, or pick up a form in the Gathering Space and return it to the box in the Gathering Space by October 1st.
