Advent 2017: WonderFUL Wandering

Join us as we prepare for the celebration of our Savior's birth! Fr. Jim and Fr. Michael are developing a Preaching Series called "WonderFUL Wandering." The act of wandering has a connotation which pictures one moving about in a rather casual, leisurely, aimless manner. Yet the Advent journey is one that engages our wandering with a purpose: to encounter the One who was called "Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Prince of Peace."  During these four weeks, the calm of the Advent season (yet the busyness of the holidays!) will ready us to welcome, receive, and adore Jesus this Christmas!

Advent Service Opportunities

Advent Giving Tree & Winter Relief

Our two major outreach efforts this holiday season to the needy of our community are our annual Advent Giving Tree program as well as supporting Winter Relief sponsored by Arundel House of Hope, which provides temporary shelter to homeless individuals in Anne Arundel County. Also, we will be distributing Christmas baskets to needy families. Please bring your non-perishable food items to church and place them in the containers.

Advent Giving TreeClick on the link to go to the St. VIncent de Paul Society's page and make a direct monetary gift to this year's Advent Giving Tree project OR after Masses the weekends of December 2 & 3 and 9 & 10 take a tag from the Giving Trees in the Gathering Space and go to the table to purchase the specified gift cards. The cards will be given to needy families in Anne Arundel County impacting approximately 90 households with around 200 children. Gifts must be made by Dec. 12 as we have to deliver the cards to the families so they have time to shop for Christmas.

Winter Relief:  St. John's will be hosting approximately 40 homeless individuals the week of Dec. 26- Jan. 2, providing a warm place to sleep, a couple of hot meals each day, as well as companionship and entertainment. You may click on the link to learn more about how you can volunteer through donations, preparing and serving meals, providing entertainment, or to make a monetary gift. Poor Box donations will go to Winter Relief the weekend of Dec. 2 & 3 as well.
