Our Daily Bread
This ministry is a parish-wide service program made up of volunteers who meet the needs of a community beyond the parish borders of St. John's. Twice monthly, volunteers serve at Our Daily Bread Employment Center, located at 725 Fallsway in Baltimore City. The primary role of this volunteer service is to prepare and serve lunch to the needy at the center between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. It is estimated that between 600 and 800 people are served at the center on a daily basis. Parish members must be at least 15 years of age (14 if there is adult supervision) and should show a strong need in helping those who are less fortunate. In the parish, there is a group of approximately 25 regular volunteers who serve throughtout the year, however, more volunteers are always welcome, especially students earning community service credits. Generally, parishioners serve on the second Wednesday of the month and the last Saturday. Please consult the bulletin for exact dates. All parish volunteer services are coordinated through a parish coordinator, Pete Lally, who can be contacted at 410-647-4092 or plally3@verizon.net. Sister Parish Project Jamaica
In 2007, we adopted two sister parishes in the diocese of Mandeville, Jamaica - St. Philomena and St. Margaret Mary. In addition to sending resources, we have committed to praying for these parishes. In the Fall we send a group of parishioners to Jamaica, to learn about the parishes and to let them know who we are. Please join us in prayer and support of our efforts to keep our Sister Parish Jamaica project running. We are planning many exciting and rewarding projects for this year and we are in need of support in many areas. If interested in finding out more please plan to attend one of our monthly meeting. Keep and eye on the weekly bulletin for times and location. Contact: Jerry Rush 410-553-0293 or triumph52@yahoo.com.
