Rev. James D. Proffitt, Pastor

Fr. Jim Proffitt has been the pastor of St. John the Evangelist since July 1, 2009. A native of Hampstead, MD, Fr. Jim converted to the Catholic faith during his senior year in high school. He then studied at Franciscan University of Steubenville, OH and received his B.A. in Theology and Mental Health and Human Services (1986). He graduated from St. Mary's Seminary and University, Baltimore, receiving the S.T.B. and M. Div. degrees (1990) and completed an M.S. in Organizational Development and Strategic Human Resources from Johns Hopkins University (2009). He was ordained to the priesthood by then Archbishop William Keeler on May 11, 1991. His prior assignments include the parishes of St. Michael the Archangel (Overlea), St. Ann (Hagerstown), Immaculate Conception (Towson), and Sacred Heart (Glyndon). Fr. Jim currently serves on the archdiocesan Senior Priest Retirement Board (Chair), Presbyteral Council, and Board of Financial Administration and is a member of the Board of Directors of Archbishop Spalding High School. Rev. Michael J. Foppiano, Associate Pastor

Rev. Michael James Foppiano has been Associate Pastor of St. John the Evangelist since July 1, 2010. He is the son of John H. and Janet M. Foppiano. He has one brother, Edward. He was born in 1980 and raised in Woodhaven, New York and then later lived in Bethpage, NY. He graduated with honors from Bethpage High School in 1998 and enrolled at The Catholic University of America in Washington, DC. He began his seminary studies at Theological College at CUA and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree magna cum laude in 2002. He then continued his seminary studies at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, where he graduated with a Masters Degree in Theology. Fr. Michael was ordained to the Priesthood on June 23, 2007 by Bishop Francis Malooly, then Auxiliary Bishop of Baltimore. Since ordination he has served as Associate Pastor of the Church of the Immaculate Conception in Towson, MD. In his spare time, Father enjoys reading, cooking, and working in his garden.
Msgr. John J. Auer, Retired Priest in Residence

Msgr. John Auer, ordained in 1957, has spent most of his life after ordination in Anne Arundel County -- St. Jane Frances, Holy Trinity, and Our Lady of the Fields. He spent five years in Ecuador and Peru. His hobbies include golfing, sailing, and painting. He retired in 2002.
Fr. John Schulmeister, OFM, Weekend Assistant

Fr. John is a Franciscan friar who has been helping at St. John's since the mid-'80s. During the week, he is the priest for Shock Trauma in Baltimore. He lives with his dogs in a neighborhood a few blocks from Trauma, enjoying something like semi-retirement.
Deacon Dean Lopata, Permanent Deacon

Deacon Dean was ordained a Deacon by William Cardinal Keeler in 1996 at the age of 52. Serving the Archdiocese of Baltimore and the people of St. John as a deacon for 15 years, he works primarily in the areas of liturgy, teaching, preaching, adult faith formation, evangelization, marriage preparation and pastoral care of the sick and elderly. In his secular employment, Deacon Dean spent 34 years working in the field of intelligence analysis and reporting for the Department of Defense; he retired in 2000. His current interests include faith, family and fishing. He and his wife, Coco, have five children and six grandchildren.
Deacon Ron Thompson, Permanent Deacon

Deacon Ron was ordained by Cardinal Keeler in 2001. He served as a deacon for five years at St. Athanasius in Curtis Bay, MD and has been assigned to St. John Severna Park since July 2006. Deacon Ron also serves as an Assistant Director and Liaison to the deacon community in the Office of Clergy Personnel for the Archdiocese of Baltimore. Deacon Ron serves in the areas of liturgy, preaching, and teaching for the parish. Deacon Ron has been married to his wife Sherry for 42 years and has 3 grown children and 3 grandchildren. He retired from Federal service in 2002 after a 33-year career. Deacon Ron serves as a consultant to the Federal government part-time. He enjoys reading and walking.
Sister Linda Larsen, SSJ, Principal

Sister Linda has been the principal of St. John the Evangelist since August 1988. A native of Baltimore, Sister attended All Saints Elementary School and Mercy High School. She entered the Sisters of St. Joseph where she received her BS in Education from Chestnut Hill College while learning the ways of Religious Life. Sister received her Masters Degree in Education with a focus in Administration and Curriculum Development from Loyola College in Baltimore. As of June 2009, Sister completed 42 years in elementary education. Twenty-five of those years have been spent ministering to the children of St. John the Evangelist as a teacher and an administrator. Sister Linda was named 2011 Principal of the Year by the Archdiocese of Baltimore Office of Catholic Schools!
Sr. Maureen Kelly, SSJ, Ministry to the Sick and Homebound

I have spent over 55 years as a Sister of St. Joseph. How blessed I am and have been all these years. No age telling. I came to St. John the Evangelist fourteen years ago and first ministered in the school. For the past 12 years I have ministered to our sick and homebound. It is a magnificent ministry and I receive a million times more than I could ever give. Wouldn't you like to share this ministry with me?
Maureen McCart, Director of Development

Maureen grew up in Towson and graduated from Immaculate Conception Elementary School and Notre Dame Prep. She received a Bachelor's degree from the University of Mary Washington with concentrations in psychology and math.
Her late husband's work took them to several states. Since returning to Maryland she has worked as Alumnae Director at Notre Dame Prep and Director of Annual Giving at Maryland Institute College of Art. She comes to us after almost 9 years as the Director of Institutional Advancement at Elizabeth Seton High School in Bladensburg, MD. Maureen started working as the Development Director at St. John's on August 8, 2011 and looks forward to getting to know the members of the parish and school community.
Donna Boyko, Office Manager

Donna has worked at St. John's full time since February 1987 and has had a varriety of jobs over the years here at St. John the Evangelist. She became the pastor's secretary in 2000 and the office manager in 2006. Her degree is in Fine Arts and she is known for her gourmet cooking and farm fresh eggs.
John Poland, Director of Religious Education

John is a native of Baltimore, raised in St. Rose of Lima parish. He received a Masters degree in Religious Education from the Ecumenical Institute at St. Mary’s Seminary, Roland Park. John has been a Catechetical Minister in the Archdiocese of Baltimore for 35 years. He is the Director of Religious Education at St. John’s parish since 2003.
Jen Mayer, Coordinator of Adult Faith Formation

Jen grew up in Peekskill, New York. She received a BS in Chemical Engineering from Bucknell University and worked in government consulting in Northern Virginia for 13 years. While working in consulting, she obtained her Master Degree in pastoral Studies from Washington Theological Union. She began working for St. John’s in 2005 and relocated to MD shortly thereafter. In her spare time, she occasionally sneaks out of the office to take art classes at the community college.
Cassandra Palmer, Coordinator of Youth Ministry
Cassandra received her Theology degree from Mount St. Mary's College (now University) in 2003, and has been ministering to young people in the Baltimore Archdiocese ever since. She has coordinated youth ministry programming at St. John since 2007. She finds joy in the energetic and unpredictable world of our Young Church, and considers it an honor to be a witness to the development of our youth. Cassandra lives in Catonsville, MD with her husband, and enjoys camping, hiking, singing, and all things pop-culture.
JoAnne Ibex, Director of Music Ministry

JoAnne arrived at St. John's on May 2, 2011. She received her degree in music from Florida State University and studied organ under Dr. Terese Gemme. She is a founding member of the Baltimore chapter of the National Association of Pastoral Musicians, as well as a member of the American Guild of Organists. She previously served at St. Michael the Archangel Parish, Overlea (2000-2011) and Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish, Essex (1990-2000). JoAnne oversees our liturgical music programs at St. John’s including serving as Director of our traditional, contemporary, and handbell choirs. She and her husband, David, have been married for 35 years and have three daughters and three granddaughters.
Mary Tamplin, Children's Choir Director

Mary Ranke Tamplin has been the Children’s Choir Director at St. John’s since January 2003. She is developing the levels of Children’s Choirs which includes Angel’s Sing, Children’s Choir and Jubilate Singers. She has been a member at St. John’s since 1971 and is a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and a Past Regent of Catholic Daughters of the Americas.
Mary is a graduate of the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University with Bachelors in Piano and Music Education and a Masters in Music Education. After thirty-three years of teaching piano, theory and vocal coaching at the Peabody Preparatory School, Mary has retired from Peabody and is developing her independent piano studio. She frequently accompanies and performs in the Baltimore/ Annapolis area. She has also taught at St. John the Evangelist School, Harbour School: Innovative Learning Center and Anne Arundel Community College.
