The goal of the Pastoral Council is to seek and support God’s will for the Saint John the Evangelist Roman Catholic parish community.

This goal is achieved by supporting, advising and helping the Pastor fulfill the mission of the Catholic Church in the parish community, and representing the entire parish community to the Pastor. The Council acknowledges that the Pastor, as spiritual shepherd of the parish community and as chief administrator of the Church of Saint John the Evangelist, has the ultimate responsibility for parish affairs as established by Canonical Law.

The Council is made up of automatic, elected, and appointed members and meets six times a year between September and June. Automatic members of the Council are the Pastor and his extended staff (church and school).

The elected members are nine lay members of the parish who have been elected to the Council according to its Constitution and By-Laws. The appointed members of the Council are three lay adults of the parish appointed by the Pastor. The elected and appointed members of the Council each serve three-year terms.

In conducting the duties of the Council, its members use prayer and reflection, asking God to release them from hidden prejudgments and to open their minds and hearts to His will as its affects the good of the parish community.
