A Word of Welcome from Father Jim

Dear Friend,

When I became Pastor of St. John the Evangelist in 2009, I was a bit overwhelmed by the size of our parish. Yet, I quickly learned what a warm and welcoming community that this parish truly can be. Our vision is that every member of our parish is actively engaged in the mission and ministry of the Church of Jesus Christ, helping to grow the Kingdom of God in our midst.

I invite you to get to know our community a little better. Our Masses offer a variety of musical styles, including traditional and contemporary choirs, a youth ensemble, and a spoken Mass. Worship is the center of all that we do at St. John's and I encourage you to join us live and in person to get to know us better.

Our parish includes a "Blue Ribbon" school as well as large religious education program for children, as well as support for those who home school their children. We are developing a vibrant high school Life Teen youth ministry on Sunday evenings and have a growing list of opportunities for adult faith formation including Bible studies, book discussions, and classes on the Catholic faith.

The greatest treasure we possess is our faith in Jesus Christ, a treasure we wish to share with all. With that, we value each member and visit who comes through our doors. My prayer is that you will find your experience of worship to be reverent and uplifting and that you will want to be part of something great here in Severna Park.

Please, peruse our website and learn more about our community and don't be shy about introducing yourself to someone at Mass. That is how we will develop our community into a large family rather than a small business! If there is anyway that either I, or any member of our Pastoral Team, may be of assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us.

Your brother in the Lord,

Fr. Jim Proffitt
