About St. John's Religious Education Program
The definitive aim of catechesis is to put people not only in touch, but also
in communion and intimacy, with Jesus Christ (GDC,#80).
Through the Office of Religious Education, the Church of St. John the Evangelist
provides catechesis to the children and youth of our Parish whose regular school
curriculum does not include instruction in the Roman Catholic Tradition. Promoting the
knowledge of faith, liturgical education, moral formation and prayer constitute the
fundamental tasks of catechesis at St. John's.
In addition to providing catechesis for our Parish young people, the Office of
Religious Education supports the spiritual development of adults who are developmentally
disabled, through our S.P.R.E.D. program.
The Office of Religious Education also coordinates the preparation process for the
celebration of the sacraments of First Reconciliation, First Eucharist and Confirmation
for the children of our Parish. This includes those children enrolled in Religious
Education classes, students attending St. John the Evangelist Elementary School,
homeschool students and parishioners who attend a regional Catholic school. Preparation
follows the teachings contained in the Catechism of the Catholic Church, as well as the
guidelines provided by the Archdiocese
of Baltimore in partnership with parents, teachers, and catechists. |
