Dear Parents,
St. John the Evangelist Parish welcomes and encourages all registered families whose children attend non-Catholic schools to enroll their children in our Religious Education Program. Please excuse the length of this letter, but it contains very important information.
Contact the Parish Religious Ed Office for a registration form and tuition fee schedule for your elementary and middle school children.
Early registration usually insures your first Session choice. However, classes often fill quickly which may necessitate our assigning your children to another Session. If, at the time of registration, your Session choice is filled, you will receive a phone call requesting that you call our office as soon as possible. The sooner you return our call, the easier it will be to accommodate your scheduling needs. It’s not unusual for our AFTERNOON Sessions to fill by the end of July or sooner. Early registration is necessary for class list preparation, Catechist recruitment, sacramental programming, book orders, and supply purchases.
This year, as a special incentive to register early, we are offering a $12.00 tuition discount to families who register (forms with complete information & tuition payment included) by Monday, July 21. Your envelope must be postmarked with the 7-21 date or hand delivered to our office by July 21 in order to qualify.
All families who (re)register will receive registration confirmation, a RE schedule and opening day information after receipt of your registration form and tuition. If we receive your registration form after Monday, August 25, your child(ren) will be unable to start Religious Education at the first class, but will start RE at the second class. Families who register after August 25 and whose child(ren) start at the second class will receive a letter with instructions.
Please be advised that we may start filling classes that, to date, do not have a committed Catechist to teach your child(ren).
Important! Parents please note: If you have registered for a class where we are unable to secure a Catechist, you will be notified. We will then ask if a parent would be willing to volunteer as a Catechist for the class (we provide training). If we do not have a volunteer Catechist by August 31, in an effort to be as fair as possible, class placement will be dependent upon interested families’ date of registration (the date your form and tuition was received by the RE office).
In order to avoid confusion concerning the registration deadlines, below is a listing of important deadlines:
- Monday, July 21– Families who return completed registration forms & tuition payment by 7/21 receive a $12 discount.
- Monday, August 25– Families who register past this date will start classes one week late.
As shown on the attached, our tuition schedule is based on the number of children in the family and the verifiable support of the parish through use of the weekly envelope system. Inflation affects your home budget and ours. Therefore, we must impose an increase in tuition. We will process your request upon receipt of the Registration Form and first payment. Please contact us if you have any additional questions or concerns.
Elementary and Middle School programs:
Our Elementary Program includes 4 yr. olds and continues through the 5th grade.
Recognizing that parents are the primary Catechists, we offer the children an additional opportunity to receive Catechesis with their peers in a classroom environment following a well-planned curriculum utilizing the "Blest Are We" series as the primary resource.
Grades K-5 Options:
Session I is held on Sunday mornings from 9:00 to 10:15 AM.
Session II is also on Sunday mornings from 10:30 to 11:45 AM.
Session III is held on Wednesday afternoons from 4:15 to 5:30 PM.
The children in our 4 year old program have the option of Session I or Session II only.
Parents please note: Grades Pre-K and K, start RE after the older grades. Pre-K & K classes will begin on Sunday, October 5 and (K only) Wednesday, October 8.
Please refer to your RE calendar for the date of your chid(ren)’s first class and the complete RE year schedule (to be mailed with your registration confirmation).
Grades 6-8 Options:
Session IV has classes on Wednesday afternoons from 4:15 – 5:30PM.
Please be advised that having a child attend Wednesday Elementary RE does NOT guarantee that we can place your Middle School child in class on Wednesday afternoon or VISE VERSA – again, EARLY registration is extremely helpful.
Session V is on Tuesday evenings from 7:00-8:15 PM.
Please note: The Confirmation Program is a free standing parish program for 8th graders (separate from Religious Education classes and separate from St. John’s school classes). Additional Confirmation information will be available later this summer.
