ARRIVALS AND DEPARTURES
On regular school days, St. John the Evangelist admits students at 8:00 a.m. and
maintains supervision of students until 3:00 p.m. On regularly scheduled half-days the
school admits students at 8:00 a.m. and maintains supervision until 12:30 p.m.
The school is not responsible for supervision of students before or after the times stated
above, and the school is not liable for any injuries or accidents which may occur. This is
required by insurance coverage and is done for the safety of the children. Parents are
advised, therefore, to follow the times as stated above.
If the student is participating in a scheduled supervised activity before or after the
hours noted above, specific arrangements must be made for drop-off and/or pick-up at the
designated times.
If children are participating in before or after school day care programs, parents must
comply with the rules established by the program for dropping off and picking up children.
BELLS
Morning: The children form lines in the yard and walk between convent and school
as soon as they come to school. At the 8:10 bell, they become silent and enter the
building at the direction of the teachers.
Dismissal: The end of class bell rings at 2:45 on a regularly scheduled day and at
12:15 on a half-day. Children in Grades 1-8 follow the line dismissal procedure.
TRAFFIC
Morning: All cars are to enter by Cypress Creek Road Entrance only. All cars then
circle around the parking lot to the Service Road that runs in front of the school building. Students are to be dropped off in the Drop-Off Zone along the Service Road. The Drop-Off Zone begins at the end of the school building by the courts, extends along the Service Road, and ends in front of the church. All children MUST exit from the passenger side
of the car. They are NEVER to exit from the driver side.
Morning Drop-Off Courtesy: If you are waiting in line to drop off a child and are stopped within the Drop-Off Zone, please be considerate of other parents waiting in line and discharge your passengers. If traffic backs up into the parking lot, please form two parallel lines stretching across the back of the parking lot, to help mimimize our traffic from backing up onto Cypress Creek Road. Please be considerate of each other and alternate the merge as you approach the Drop-Off Zone.
Parking: Parking is not permitted in the play areas between 11:15 and 1:00.
Parking, entering/leaving the play area is not permitted between 11:15 and 1:00.
Afternoon: All cars are to enter by Cypress Creek Road Entrance only.
PLEASE WAIT UNTIL ALL STUDENTS HAVE STOPPED WALKING AND SIGNAL IS GIVEN BEFORE YOU START
TO MOVE.
Insist that the student come directly to the car. Do not let the students
stand outside the car waiting for you. This causes other drivers
to wait. No cars are to leave the parking lot until the signal is
given. DO NOT BACKUP AT ANY TIME IN PARKING LOT. If you know
your carpool students will be late coming out of school, please
park down toward the Church. Parents with little ones
waiting to pick up students are requested to keep the little children
in their cars. There is moving traffic in the parking lot. It is
very dangerous to have the children playing on the parking lot.
We ask your cooperation in this matter for the safety of all our
children.
N.B. Please follow the directions of those directing traffic at all times.
Crossing Guards will be on duty at Ritchie Highway from 7:40
to 8:20 in the morning and from 2:50 to 3:10 in the afternoon. Please
obey the crossing guards. Students may never cross without the guard.
Walkers/Car Riders: It is designated at the beginning of
the year whether your child is
a walker or a car rider. No change may be made in this procedure
without written permission from a parent. Phone calls will not be
an acceptable substitute. Children who walk must maintain orderly
conduct in school, on the street, and at crossings.
Bicycles: Children whose parents permit them to ride bikes to school must
obey the following procedures:
a. No student may carry another student on his/her bike.
b. Owners must provide their own locks.
c. In the morning students are to enter the property using the Cypress Creek entrance
d. At dismissal, bike riders ride behind the walking line to the corner and obey the
traffic regulations at crossings and along the street.
e. Students must wear a bike helmet in keeping with Maryland law regarding bike
safety.
