Liturgical Ministries

Liturgical ministry is an excellent opportunity to fulfill your baptismal call of service to one another.  Our liturgies utilize the talents and gifts that God has given this community to the fullest extent.  Whether participation is through “behind the scenes” preparation and planning or through a public role of service within the Mass, parishioner contributions help our liturgies to be truly life-giving celebrations.

Liturgical lay ministries include lectors (Ministers of the Word) who proclaim scriptural (the Bible) passages during the Eucharist, altar servers and acolytes who assist the presider at the altar, cantors and music ministers who lead the singing, extraordinary ministers of Holy Communion who serve during Mass and/or who take Holy Communion to the sick and homebound, and ushers or ministers of hospitality who direct the seating and procession of the assembly.

Please prayerfully consider joining one of these ministries.

Music Ministries

The great composer Johann Sebastian Bach said, “The aim and final reason of all music is none else but the glory of God and the refreshment of the spirit.” Our church is blessed to have gifted singers and skillful instrumentalists, both professional and lay musicians, who participate in our ministry week after week. It is our goal to present music that glorifies, edifies, and ministers to the saints who worship with us.

“And He put a new song in my mouth, a song of praise to our God; many will see and fear, and will trust in the Lord” (Psalm 40:3).

Our parish Music Ministry engages parishioners of all ages and style preferences.  More information is available through the parish Music Office at 443-261-0161 or jibex@stjohnsp.org.

All adult Music Ministry members are required to complete the VIRTUS volunteer training and teens should participate in Worthy of the Call.

Arimathean Ministry

Inspired by Joseph of Arimathea, the Arimathean Ministry prepares the altar for funeral Masses. We greet, direct, and comfort mourners, serve as lectors if requested, and send sympathy cards to the families. Volunteers are greatly needed. If interested, contact Sarah Ranke at shranke@verizon.net.

Faith Formation & Youth Ministry Opportunities

Our Faith Formation and Youth Ministry programs would not be possible without the help of the parish community coming forward in various ways to pass on our faith to our kids. Adults can help as leaders or helpers for our kids and youth small groups, to coordinate service projects and trips, to help in our office, and to serve as a greeter during our sessions. Contact the faith formation office to help.

Collection Counters

Money counters serve the parish in a critical stewardship role. Please contact Al Jones or Sarah Ranke at the parish office (410-647-4884) for more information.

Parish Office

The parish office occasionally needs volunteers to assist with some basic clerical duties, usually on Thursday afternoons for about an hour. If you would like to be added to our contact list, call the parish office at 410-647-4884.
