Jesus is here.

“Out of the darkness of my life, so much frustrated, I put before you the one great thing to love on earth: the Blessed Sacrament … There you will find romance, glory, honour, fidelity, and the true way of all your loves upon earth.”

― J.R.R. Tolkien, The Letters of J.R.R. Tolkien

WHAT IS EUCHARISTIC ADORATION?

Eucharistic Adoration is the worship of Jesus Christ in the Holy Eucharist outside of the Mass. The consecrated Host (which has become Jesus Himself) is displayed in a Monstrance on the Altar so that all can see and pray in the presence of Christ.

WHY DO WE DO IT?

The answer to that question comes directly out of the Catechism of the Catholic Church: “Adoration is the first attitude of man acknowledging that he is a creature before his Creator. It exalts the greatness of the Lord who made us and the almighty power of the Savior who sets us free from evil. Adoration is homage of the spirit to the ‘King of Glory,’ respectful silence in the presence of the ‘ever greater’ God. Adoration of the thrice holy and sovereign God of love blends with humility and gives assurance to our supplications.” (CCC 2628)

Visit Jesus

Daily Hours

The church is open daily from 7a.m.–9p.m. for all visitors. Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament is scheduled from 9a.m. Thursday through 8a.m. Saturday in the Oratory.

The Oratory (located in the Gathering Space) is open daily the same hours as the church and is also available for prayer after-hours (24/7) for those who request the access code. See below for obtaining after-hours access for prayer.

A Special Note

Jesus is always present in the Tabernacle in the Sanctuary of the church and in the Oratory. So if you visit during hours when there is not yet Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, please know that he is there to meet you in prayer. The red sanctuary lamp that burns in every Roman Catholic church indicates that Jesus is truly present.

After-Hours Access

The church doors are locked from 9p.m.–7a.m., and the main church is not accessible for prayer at these times. (The church will be roped off and an alarm set).

However, parishioners wishing to visit the Lord after-hours may enter the Gathering Space using a special door code to unlock the outer door and access the Oratory for prayer.

Visitors who are either St. John the Evangelist parishioners or registered parishioners in the Archdiocese of Baltimore can request the door code by contacting the Parish Office at 410-647-4884, or via the form below. Our staff will verify the information you provide and, if approved, you will receive the door code. This code changes regularly so please be sure to watch your email for updates.

To obtain after—hours access, please complete the form below to complete the necessary steps.

Become a Weekly Adorer

St. John the Evangelist offers exposition of the Blessed Sacrament every week from Thursday at 9p.m. through Saturday at 8a.m. All are welcome to come at any time, but we do need at least two people to be with Our Lord at all times.

Regular, weekly Adorers are asked to commit to an hour of prayer before the Blessed Sacrament at the same day and time each week. Adorers are needed to fill Thursday evening through Saturday morning hours.

Please note, weekly Adorers on the regular roster and substitute list must be at least 18 years old so that we remain in compliance with the safe environment standards required by the Archdiocese for the protection of children and youth.

You probably have some questions about serving as a weekly Adorer. Please see our FAQs here to get some answers.

Become a Sub

If you're not ready to sign up as a regular weekly Adorer yet, but would like to help cover an hour here or there, then please sign up to be a Sub.

Adoration Subs receive emails or texts when regular Adorers can't make it and need someone to cover an hour for them. Subs can choose whether or not to respond to requests from Adorers.

We are so grateful for our substitutes; they are incredibly responsive and totally critical for this mission!
